Chief was rescued in March 2024 for an injury to his right back leg as a result of being tied to a tree using wire. The wound healed over a couple of months and he gradually grew a new hoof under his old injured one which eventually detached. When he is not in the mood to vie for dominance with his rival Jackson, he is gentle and peaceful. He likes to explore and easily adapts to change.
